The IMAGE Social Entrepreneurship Businesswoman of the Year 2013
The IMAGE Social Entrepreneurship Businesswoman of the Year 2013 is an inspirational businesswoman working in the voluntary or not-for-profit sectors, who demonstrates the successful use of entrepreneurial principles to organise, create and manage a social venture to achieve a desired social change. Often described as dreamers and doers, the main characteristics the judges were looking for included innovation, passion, resourcefulness and risk taking.
The winner, Lisa Domican, founder of Grace App Communications, is a Wicklow-based mother of two autistic children. Despite no funding, no technical skills and no equipment, Lisa developed a simple picture communication app in collaboration with a successful games developer, that allows non-verbal people with autism and other disabilities to communicate effectively. She has truly made a difference to so many families, and gives real meaning to the term social entrepreneurship.
